From 2023 "The next-phase — in-person and virtual public forums — has been pushed back from the fall. No dates have been set, but the MHRC is planning to host hearings before the current school year wraps up and conclude the initiative with a series of stakeholder-specific consultations."

Due to no one being contacted by the MB HRC regarding Right to Read in Manitoba and orthographic dyslexics, dygraphics, and dyscalculics being excluded along with anyone who not a young student, a petition was made public: Marin's Principle - Right to Literacy.

This presentation will focus on parents, Manitoba educators, dyslexics, and dysgraphics and will delve into Right to Read Manitoba to ensure inclusive and effective education. Note: This presentation will be focused on Manitoba, but is beneficial and inclusive to all. Twila Richards will explain why the Manitoba Human Rights Commission was contacted, how to screen for students for dyslexia and or dysgraphia, and most importantly, explain an evidence-based approach that not only help individuals with dyslexia and dysgraphia thrive academically, but also keep their self-confidence and love for learning.We believe in Manitoba teachers and support their learning of understanding what dyslexia and dysgraphia are, what their strengths and challenges are, how to best teach them to foster positive change that makes a lasting impact on these students' lives.There's a great set of presenters lined up. June 4 - Aug. 20, 2023 Right to Read Manitoba was happy to support Sober Families Alliance with the "Emerging Perspectives: Artist Showcase" at the Assiniboine Park Pavillion Art Gallery. June 23, 2023 Right to Read Manitoba gathering was held on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislative Building. Twila Richards gave gratitude to Manitobans for their work with literacy and gave the following update from the Manitoba Human Rights Commission: "Thanks Twila – Unfortunately, I cannot make it this evening but we send our best to all the families that are gathering this evening. By way of update, we will be reaching out to the survey respondents and our distribution list this summer. In the fall, we plan to hold public meetings to gather more feedback and input from families and persons with reading disabilities. We want to learn as much as we can from your experiences. We will also be doing more targeted meetings with key stakeholders, including associations that support persons with reading disabilities, educators, administrators and other key stakeholders. Our work is progressing – and we look forward to sharing our findings with community toward the end of this year/ early next year.

October 21, 2022In the evening, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission's Karen Sharma presented to a group celebrating Mark it Read to inform them of the Right to Read Manitoba. In the morning, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission declared the Right to Read in Manitoba during an MTS-PD event.
Twila Richards spoke at the MTS-PD event for the Manitoba teachers for students with learning disabilties (MTSLD).
May 2022Twila Richards presented to the MB-HRC asking for Right to Literacy in Manitoba and informing them on dyslexia (phonological, orthographic, and word recall), dygraphia, and dyscalculia. This was later denied in October of 2022. Orthographic dyslexics, dysgraphics, and dyscalculics were excluded.
February 2022 The ON-HRC Right to Read report was released. 2021 This special project was pushed back due to MB-HRC being busy with mask mandates, vaccines, etc. October 2021 Twila Richards spoke at the MTS-PD event for the Manitoba teachers for students with learning disabilties (MTSLD). December 2020Parents and/or individuals met with the Human Rights Commission of Manitoba. They were told this would be a special project and a priority.
